CranioSacral Therapy and MyoFascial Release

The techniques of both Upledger Institute CranioSacral Therapy  and John F. Barnes' MyoFascial Release approach  focus on treating the fascial system of the body. Fascia is connective tissue that gives shape and structure to our bodies.  It wraps around each cell, vessel, muscle fiber, muscle bundle, bone and organ as one large sheath of tissue.  Because the fascia connects throughout the body, an injury in one area can refer consequences to another part of the body.   John Barnes speaks about myofascial release in a youtube video.

Our fascia protects us and is designed to resist force.  This is why I use a very light pressure when interacting with it.  With a gentle, constant touch, the fascia softens and unwinds.  You can see a video of live fascial tissue here

Please bring a bathing suit (two-piece for women) or running shorts and a sports bra (for women) to change into prior to your session.

The CranioSacral system consists of the soft tissues and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle treatment that assists your body in releasing old injuries and improves the flow of cerebro-spinal fluid, which feeds the nervous system.

Jamilah treats both adults and school-age children.  Some conditions she has worked with include  ADHD, Bell's Palsy, chronic headaches, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic pain, injury recovery, emotional upsets, stress, low back pain, passage of kidney stones, depression, TMJ pain/dysfunction and anxiety.

Dr. Upledger teaches us that the core purpose of CranioSacral therapy is self-realization for the client.  Jamilah is not here to tell you why your back hurts or the reason behind your multiple injuries.  Her purpose is to be grounded and present with you as your tissues unwind and your mind settles down into a place where you can access your own inner wisdom and the spark of the Divine within you.

In Healing Ancient Wounds:  The Renegade's Wisdom, John F. Barnes says "It is really hard for us all to face our fear.  We run from it.  We were taught to run from it.  We were taught not to feel anything.  When our fears start to surface, it's a little scary.  But I'll tell you, what's really scary is not getting in touch with it!  This is what distorts your life and your behavior, and it's what creates disease.  Myofascial unwinding is never injrious.  You will go through various aspects of tissue memory, and what you will hear from your paitents all the time is, 'Gee, I'd thought I already dealt with that.'  Well, they probalby had, at least on the intellectual level.  We're all good at that, but it's not enough.  A complete resolution will only occur once you feel the emotions that were associated with that person or event, and release all of those stored momeories.  Time doesn't take care of emotional wounds, it covers them up with fascial adaptive layer upon fascial adaptive layer.  This is why over time we all solidify and all these physical symptoms manifest themselves."
